A couple years ago I was blessed with the opportunity to spend several days in Southern California wandering old Route 66 with Dave Wyman and Image Quest Tours. Lately I’ve been revisiting the images that I captured during this time and was wanting to share them here.
The group met in Barstow, CA and traveled the majority of Route 66 of So. Cal over the course of 3 days. We made stops in the towns of Amboy, Victorville, Newberry Springs, Daggett, visited historic sites like Roy’s Motel (reference your iPhone user manual for a glimpse), the Bagdad Café, and a lot of locations “off the beaten path”. It was a wonderful time spent with other photographers, ranging in skill levels from professionals to hobbyists, aged young to old, and from many different parts of the country, and world.
This trip for me was an experience helped to spark my interest and enthusiasm in further developing my photography, whether I’m photographing people, or rusted out relics from parts of our country that were largely forgotten about once the interstate was constructed and bypassed many towns that at one point were on a once major thoroughfare.
Following are pictures from my first day on Route 66. Our first day was spent in and around the city of Barstow and a local metal shop’s scrap yard. Pictures from the rest of the trip will follow in subsequent posts. I hope you enjoy the images, just as much as I enjoyed creating them.
